vic and bert

Vic and Bert began in 2011 after Melanie Vincent moved to Australia.

In Australia Melanie saw a huge gap in the clothing market for classic, stylish and affordable pieces in great fabrics and yarns.

Having worked in the fashion industry for all her adult life in all aspects from design to production and pattern cutting – it seemed a waste not to use this knowledge.

CHHIPA

Chhipa began in January 2015, when founders Lizzie Lock and Claudia Borfiga traveled to India.

Whilst in Rajasthan they came across the ancient craft of block printing and spent time learning the process amongst the Chhipa community.

Captivated by the craftmanship and it’s possibilities, the duo wanted to make block printing accessible to a contemporary audience back at home.

Whilst standing on the top of the Nahargarh Fort, both wearing men’s shirts, the brand was realised and in September 2015, Chhipa’s first collection was launched.

Using the traditional process of ‘Dabu’ printing; a particular type of hand block printing that works with a mud resist, Collection One is made of four print designs; the Bump, Fan, Cross and Stripe.

The shirts are available in two styles – ‘The English’ based on a classic button-down Oxford shirt, featuring a ‘secret’ pocket hidden in the side seam and ‘The Indian’ based on a traditional Kurta, with English worker-man pockets. With a focus on soft tailoring they were able to create shirts that would work as a unisex garment.

Each pattern is produced in a limited edition of 100 shirts, allowing the printers to work in small batches for the best quality prints.
